Shameka Turner

LCSW-BAC, LAC

Shameka Turner began her career in administration working for a chemical dependency organization in 2007. Later in life, inspired by the needs of others and called to help in a new capacity, returned to school to obtain her Bachelor’s in Social Work. She graduated in 2011 from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. In 2013, she graduated with her Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Texas Arlington and became licensed soon thereafter. Shameka is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Alexandria, Louisiana who is licensed both in Texas and Louisiana. In addition to her clinical license, she is a Licensed Addiction Counselor.

Shameka has over fifteen years of experience working in the mental health/substance abuse field helping people struggling with substance abuse, sexual assault, trauma, and serious and persistent mental illness. She additionally has 5 years of medication assisted therapy (MAT) to aid in treating and managing Opioid abuse. Shameka is certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has several years of experience providing therapy to children, adult and geriatric patients successfully.

As a therapist, Shameka utilizes Solution Focused therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to bring clients through a rewarding journey on their way to wellness. Shameka is not only a skilled clinician, but she is also adept at treatment plans, individual, family and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management and consult work.

Shameka also enjoys hobbies in her spare time that include reading, spending time with loved ones, vacationing on the beach and baking.She has helped to nurture future social workers by serving as a social work student field instructor and continues today in a clinical supervisory role. Shameka has an extensive background in medical social work experience as well as a Behavioral Health Consultant in primary care setting. Eager to serve her community, Shameka is an active board member of the United Way and a proud member of the Phi Delta Alpha Honor Society.

Candy Vandevelde

Candy Vandevelde has over fifteen years of experience working in a variety of mental health and substance abuse settings. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Candy continued her education and graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2004 with a Master’s Degree in Clinical psychology. Candy later returned to her hometown of Alexandria where she now resides as a board approved Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor.

Candy is an experienced clinician providing client centered therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She utilizes person centered, evidenced based approaches tailored to meet each client’s individual needs. Candy incorporates a range of treatment interventions including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused techniques, and mindfulness. This approach creates a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment to explore client’s unique experiences and help create positive change.

Candy upholds the belief that the journey to transformation begins from within, every voice should be heard, and imperfections should be embraced. Candy is not only a skilled clinician, but she has a passion for the development of future professional counselors. She provides supervision for provisionally licensed professional counselors and supports them while they develop the skills necessary to become competent and confident in their profession while obtaining their clinical license.

Candy is a managing board member of We Care Behavioral Health LLC and actively supports local initiatives and community outreach in that role. In her spare time, Candy enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, reading, and outdoor activities.
